WWW.GEMIC.EU: Gender, immigration and intercultural relations in south Europe

GeMIC is a new research project exploring the intersections between "gender, migration and intercultural interactions in South Europe". GeMIC is coordinated by the Center for Gender Studies at the Panteion University, Greece, it involves partners from Bulgaria, Roumania, Turkey, Macedonia, SpainItaly and Cyprus funded by the seventh framework program of the European Union. As part of the project, an interactive website has been launched, which will hopefully function in itself as a space of intercultural interaction. Rather than simply publicizing final results, the aim of our website is to open up the research process as much as possible to stakeholders, policy makers, academics and the general public:

Users can publish their own videos on gender, migration and intercultural interactions in the "Send us your video" section. Some of them will then be selected as part of the video documentary that will be produced at the end of the project.

There is also a blog section where users can debate issues relevant to the themes explored in the course of the project.

In the section comment on GeMIC's output, the main research findings and policy recommendations of the project will be published in order for users to send their comments.

The e-library offers bibliographical reference to policy documents, academic articles and web-sites relevant to GeMICs tripartite focus.

Finally, GeMIC's interactive map will feature events and practices related to gender and migration in order to include different forms of mobilization and resistance that take place and that may influence research. Groups or individuals can send us relevant information and we will publish it on our site. At the end of the project an alternative map will be produced based on these practices.
